A soft flame flickered to life as the morning sun slipped through the curtains. Adjoa B. Wallace stood quietly in the kitchen, holding the match just a moment longer than needed, as if the tiny light carried something more than warmth.
 
It had been four years since her knee replacement, and also some time since her daughter moved across the country. Years of painful memories had been tucked into the corners of her mind. But today is different.
Today, I write to express my gratitude to my daughter and Lauren, for putting everything on hold to care for me during a difficult time in my life. During my surgery, I remember Lauren was supposed to go on vacation with her husband, but she chose to stay behind and take care of me until my daughter returned from school, and my own mother who called and prayed for me when I was in the nursing home.
My daughter has been like a mother to me in many ways. When I moved here, she supported me financially and even bought me clothes, making sure I had what I needed to start again. She stood by me with strength and love, reminding me that I was not alone.
Lauren has also been a blessing in my life. She taught me and helped me pass my citizenship test, guided me in setting up my candle website, and supported me financially when I needed it most. Her kindness, patience, and generosity have made a lasting impact on my life.
I simply want to say that every woman deserves appreciation and applause. Women are naturally caring, often stepping up to help, even for strangers: driven by a deep, motherly instinct.
I share my story to encourage anyone who has not yet taken the time to thank a motherly figure in their life. Kudos to all mothers, aspiring mothers, and every girl child. Every day is Mother’s Day for every woman. 👩
